Never used an interpreter before? Click here for tips on what to do. With over 20 million persons in the U.S. who have a hearing loss, open and closed captioning offers video media, corporate training tapes, commercials and public service announcements to be accessible to this audience. Deaf Services Unlimited offers state-of-the-art technology in transcribing and captioning your videos. Contact our office for an individual consultation on how we can produce a captioned video to meet your needs and offer very competitive pricing.
We used to think that quality interpreting services were hard to come by in rural or remote areas, Video Remote Interpreting changed that reality. Through state-of-the-art video conferencing technology, Deaf Services Unlimited is able to provide you with the same professional interpreting services you receive in person, but through video. Video Remote Interpreting, or VRI, makes it possible for businesses, agencies and organizations to communicate with their clients, co-workers, customers and patients whether the service is needed in metropolitan cities or in rural areas where qualified interpreters can be scarce. The process for scheduling and receiving services remains the same. You can request services on-demand or in advance by contacting the DSU Office and scheduling the time that you need services. DSU will then confirm the interpreter and the service will come to you from a remote location right to a TV screen or monitor in your office. It is a simple, easy and low-cost solution for those times when it seems impossible to receive interpreting services.
CART is the instantaneous translation of the spoken word into English text using a stenotype machine, notebook computer and realtime software and displaying the text on a laptop computer, monitor or screen. The captioner and the consumer are in the same location. The audio feed of a meeting or lecture is being transmitted by use of a microphone used by the speaker, which is transmitted over a phone line to the captioner who is at a remote location. The instantaneous translation of what the captioner/CART reporter hears is then transmitted to a consumers laptop computer through a modem or at a special website on the Internet. The DSU Buzz is a quarterly e-newsletter that keeps you informed. In each issue you will find brief articles that will update you on what you need to know. Get all of the 'buzz' related to the ADA, interpreting, business strategies, tax incentives, and more. To receive the DSU Buzz, e-mail us at TalkToUs@DeafServicesUnlimited.com.
