At the University of Nebraska Medical Center I work in cancer related issues, particular bladder cancer. I became familiar with Deaf Services Unlimited as the President of the Central States Society of Toxicology. We had a graduate student who is deaf and was to present her poster. It was then I realized we needed a sign language interpreter.

I didn’t know anything about sign language interpreting. And in this case, what was being interpreted was very specific and technical. I faced two obstacles: my lack of knowledge of who to contact to find a quality sign language interpreter and who could master the level of technical terminology.
